Dataprobe Helps Telecommunications Service Provider Boost Profitability by Eliminating Service Calls with the iBoot Remote Power Solution
iBoot Saves UnwiredOnline Thousands of Dollars in Service Calls and Maintenance by Remotely Operating its Equipment
PARAMUS, NJ; June 23, 2005 – Dataprobe, a leading manufacturer of innovative technology solutions for networking, systems and site management, has equipped UnwiredOnline, a business and residential telecommunications service provider, with iBoot power switch to remotely operate its equipment and protect its wireless Internet subscribers. The device remotely controls equipment at its service towers, which has helped the company save thousands of dollars by nearly eliminating service calls and on-site visits.

Oregon-based UnwiredOnline operates remotely located service towers that provide customers with wireless Internet service. With the towers dispersed over a large rural area, UnwiredOnline was required to send technicians on lengthy and expensive service calls to reboot the equipment in the event of a connection interruption or failure. These calls, occurring as often as 10 times per month, made it financially and logistically difficult for the company to provide continuous service to its customer base.

"Our business is contingent on the reliability of our service and the satisfaction of our customers," said Steve Melhorn of UnwiredOnline. "Service calls can be difficult for small businesses, and can impede on the ability to properly service customers. We were looking to limit these calls and minimize the associated costs, and found that Dataprobe’s iBoot was the ideal solution."

The iBoot is a single outlet power switch designed to remotely monitor, manage and control corporate and personal computing devices and other electronic equipment. The switch allows remote equipment such as Internet service equipment to be rebooted or power controlled over an IP network using an Internet browser or automatically based on ping responses.

UnwiredOnline purchased the Dataprobe iBoot devices in 2004, with each device connected to a service site. This allowed the company to remotely reboot and maintain its equipment via computer, eliminating the need for service calls. After once relying on frequent visits by technicians to repair the connections, the company has nearly eliminated service calls in the past seven months. This has represented several thousands of dollars in savings for UnwiredOnline over the period, and has increased the overall reliability and quality of service for its customers.

"The iBoot is a small investment that has greatly improved the reliability and uptime of our wireless network," Melhorn said. "The device is adaptable and user friendly, with enough settings to cater to each user’s specific needs. There hasn’t been a single instance where the iBoot hasn’t been able to get the job done."

The iBoot device includes a unique auto detection capability that identifies failures in any connected system by monitoring IP devices on the network. If programmed, iBoot can perform a timed reboot or other power controlled function automatically whenever a device fails. iBoot can also be directly activated from a web browser or by using a simple IP message or applet called from network management software.

"Reliability and convenience are paramount in today’s technology-driven marketplace," said David Weiss, CEO of Dataprobe. "The iBoot provides businesses with the convenience of remote power and operation while ensuring consistent results. Compounded with its modest price, the iBoot can help businesses operate more efficiently with fewer costs."

The iBoot device retails for $275 and is available for purchase through Dataprobe’s Web site (dataprobe.com) and through its reseller channels
