A major HVAC vendor was in a quandary. One of their largest retail chain clients was signing up for a utility company program to reduce power during peak summer loads. This "load shedding" program would save the stores millions of dollars in utility costs over the next five years. The problem was how to quickly and simultaneously control all locations when a power reduction was required. Each stores HVAC, lighting and refrigeration systems needed to adjust to the reduced available power.

Dataprobe provided a unique solution that integrated an existing product, with special assemblies and custom software to accomplish this, and more. To provide immediate and timely status and control to each store, Dataprobe hit upon the idea of using a paging service.

Each store is equipped with a Dataprobe SB-4 Site Manager, integrated with a custom paging receiver. Each receiver has identical addresses and all receive pages for the system.

Once a store receives a utility company trigger, it dials out to a paging service and broadcasts an alert. All stores activate the HVAC controls and page out a confirmation. Custom PC software monitors all sites as they report confirmations, again through the paging service. The software's graphical interface allows managers to quickly indentify system status and store readiness.
