ALLENDALE, NJ; August 21, 2007 ---
Dataprobe, a leading manufacturer of innovative technology solutions for networking systems management, has announced that its iBoot product, a remote power solution designed to remotely monitor, manage and control corporate and personal computing devices and other electronic equipment, is now compliant with RoHS and WEEE standards in the European Union (EU).
The RoHS Directive, effective July 1, 2006, stands for the ‘restriction of the use of hazardous substances’ in electrical and electronic equipment. This Directive bans the sale or import of new electrical and electronic equipment containing more than certain levels of lead, cadmium, mercury, hexavalent chromium, polybrominated biphenyl (PBB) and polybrominated diphenyl ether (PBDE) flame retardants. The complementary WEEE Directive is designed to reduce the risk of exposing recycling staff to hazardous chemicals as well as lowering recycling costs. Manufacturers, such as Dataprobe, must meet the requirements of both Directives in order to import their products for sale in the EU market.
David Weiss, president of Dataprobe, said, “iBoot was already an eco-friendly product by design. It helps thousands of companies reduce operating and energy costs by allowing remote and automatic shutdown. Complying with the RoHS and WEEE Directives makes smart business sense. If we can manufacture our products in a more efficient and environmentally sound way, we are glad to abide by these new guidelines.”
iBoot, a single outlet power switch, allows remote equipment to be rebooted or power controlled over an IP network using an Internet browser. Its unique auto detection capability identifies failures in any connected system by monitoring IP devices on the network. If programmed, iBoot can then perform a timed reboot or shutdown automatically whenever the device fails. iBoot can also be directly activated by other network management systems.
A cost-effective and easy-to-use technology, iBoot reduces or eliminates the need for on-site technical support. iBoot is an ideal off-the-shelf solution for corporations with geographically dispersed computing systems. Its applications are vast, ranging from kiosks to wireless hot spots to ATM cash machines.
